Pest Bird Damage

Dangers Posed by Pest Birds

AVIATION (B.A.S.H.) According to the FAA, bird strikes cost civil aviation almost $500 million a year. Just one bird can destroy a costly jet engine. Bird strikes on military airfields endanger our troops, the mission and equipment.

AGRICULTURE Native and non-native bird species can cause crop loss in vineyards of 30% to 100%. Non-native birds can quickly devour seeds and ripening fruit.

RECREATION & URBAN AREAS Pest birds carry diseases communicable to man, wildlife and domestic animals. Diseases transmitted by birds include aspergillosis, salmonellosis, thrush, avian tuberculosis, coccidiosis, cryptococcoses, encephalitis, histoplasmosis, Newcastle disease, toxoplasmosis and West Nile virus. Bird droppings can destroy the paint on cars and buildings.

FERAL CATS, RACCOONS & SKUNKS Feeding feral cats attracts raccoons and skunks, a majority of which carry the deadly raccoon roundworm. Humans can come into contact with roundworm eggs several different ways. Mice and rats are vectors. There is no treatment and no cure for the disease; it can be lethal.
